Seeds of empowerment are sowed at Nia House. Each year, children study the beloved topic of “Freedom Fighters,” where thought leaders and activists such as Dr. Martin Luther King, Yuri Kochiyama, Dolores Huerta, Ghandi and others are studied and celebrated. Together with our children and families we begin caring conversations of belonging, carving out an open-hearted future where a path to democracy is foreseeable, a future Dr. Martin Luther King and so many other freedom fighters inspire.
Nia House children discover their voices with strength and courage through work and play, learning independent conflict resolution skills and self advocacy. These children are trusted to take the lead in their classrooms. Dr. Maria Montessori believed education is the path to peace which must begin with the child. Throughout her writing, peace emerges through the development of inner discipline, empathy and respect for all life. We carry the torch of Dr. Montessori’s vision and share a peace curriculum which includes environmentalism, racial justice, financial equity, human rights and compassion.
Our future leaders of peace and democracy are born at Nia House. We nurture children who grow into spiritually prepared adults, guided by values, and who understand the challenges of our times. Our community is one where all people hold the weight and responsibility of compassionate mutual aid and a deep cultural sense of belonging, beginning in early childhood.
Together, we make a lasting difference. Your ongoing contributions to Nia House’s scholarship fund enable 51% of the families to have access to educational opportunities, access to belonging– your financial contributions help shape our future leaders. With your help, Nia House will subsidize over $800,000 of tuition this year. Your support is needed.
With your love and generous spirit, Nia House will continue to help children find their voices to ask the question: What kind of world do we want to live in? Join us in creating the world of which we all dream.
With love, hope and the dreams of our future freedom fighters,
Eve, Stacey Lenore and the Nia House Team
