OPEN HOUSE MAY 14

IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS

  • Each primary child is assigned a half hour time slot (6-6:30 or 6:30-7) in order to show their parents how they navigate/work in their classrooms. Parents of two primary children can float between classrooms or bring another adult to observe in each class simultaneously.

  • Please arrive promptly at the start of your child's time slot. A teacher will welcome all the children inside and parents will stay outside for the first 5 minutes to receive an introduction/reminders while children get settled into their work.

  • When the observation is over, please plan to leave right away- the yard is not open for playing or socializing. Staying on the yard too long during the Open House can make it hard for other children to leave, or to come start their indoor work.

  • Observations are an opportunity for a window into your child's day! It is not a time to participate, engage, or help, so please watch quietly at a distance. Your child might spill something big, might add 2+2=5, might label the head of the bird "tail," and your job is truly to watch, not to correct.

  • Please only consider bringing an older sibling if they are prepared to strictly observe for the full 30min- they will not be able to work, engage, or play outside during the event.

  • Returning to school in the evening and having their classroom full of strangers is not developmentally aligned with some children, especially the younger primary students. If your child has recently transitioned to primary in the past 3-6 months, please check in with your lead teacher before considering participating.

  • If you cannot make it during your child's assigned time, but still want to observe, please reach out and we'll help you find another time for an individual that meets your needs.

  • Open House is not a mandatory event, and participation should be child-directed.  If your child is resistant, please don't make them come. Once inside, if your child is upset, dysregulated, or disruptive, they are communicating the need to go home, so feel free to leave at any time.

  • Toddler parents are welcome to come from 6-6:30 to visit their children's class, ask questions, explore the children's environment, but we will not be welcoming toddlers back to school in the evening.  Just parents.
